A Brief Cheeky History:

1968 - Cheeky Guides creator David Bramwell is born in Doncaster – something he is still coming to terms with.

1978 - Bramwell bags the much-coveted Doncaster Scouts Arm-Wrestling Trophy.

1983 - Cheeky co-author Tim Bick goes to France by mistake and rediscovers the saucisson on behalf of the hair gel generation.

1997 - Bramwell’s first kiss with tongues.

1999 - April 3rd. Cheeky Guides Ltd is created, introducing a new genre of travel guide that combine humour, irreverence, storytelling and real insider information with a comic book style.

1999 - April 19th. The Cheeky Guide to Brighton is released, hits the number one slot in the Brighton branch of Waterstones and remains the town’s best-selling book for over two years until the release of Harry Potter and the Naughty Dinner-Ladies of Aberystwyth.

2000 - Onwards - Since the release of the first edition of the Brighton book, Cheeky has gone from strength to strength, releasing successful guides to Oxford, Student Life and Love, not to mention a string of successful comedy shows in Brighton and Edinburgh based on several of the titles.

about the authors

Tim Bick

Despite weak knees and a predisposition towards pre-war cough mixture, Tim has become the toast of Brighton society and counts local celebrities such as the wardrobe co-ordinator from Hollyoaks and Brian Archer "the butcher of Hanover" amongst his closest acquaintances. He also dabbles in radio presentation, where his trademark is speaking extremely slowly. More about that here:

David Bramwell

Like all gifted artists, David Bramwell is moody, complicated and utterly beguiling to the opposite sex. As well as being the author of Cheeky Guides, he is also the singer-songwriter in the band Oddfellow’s Casino, a wheezy musical ensemble, named after a Victorian Freakshow host. You can learn more about their lovely music at: www.oddfellowscasino.org

the future

Recently David set his sights further afield with plans for the Cheeky Guide to Asia, but ran out of funds halfway through Kazakhstan. He does, however, have his eyes on Europe (the continent, not the '80s poodle-rock band). Watch this space!
